Flossenbürg (memorial)

Historical background

See: Flossenbürg (camp)

Description of commemoration

In the so-called Valley of Death, near the Pyramid of the Ashes, we can find an unusual memorial. Made of smooth, polished, black granite, it resembles a rounded top of an aeroplane wing stuck in the ground (prisoners of the camp worked for the Messerschmitt factory). Just under the wing, there is an inverted black triangle (a symbol given to prisoners qualified as Gypsies / Roma / Sinti) made of the same type of stone.

The memorial was unveiled on the 71st anniversary of the liberation of the camp.
