Lety u Písku (memorial)

Historical background

Description of commemoration

Inscriptions

On the grassy square, there is an Orthodox cross (on the right). In the centre of the square one can see an installation consisting of a pile of stones. After analysis the stones turn out to be a cracked and incomplete, broken sphere. According to the author, no nation is the same after the Holocaust; it cannot be considered complete in any way. So are the Roma.

The layout of the square is complemented by amphitheaterally arranged benches, prepared for memorial meetings, which stand at the entrance to the meadow-square. Near the benches, there is also a large information board in Czech, Romani and English.

Note that an information board which commemorates the Lety camp is also located next to the Commune Office in Lety, as part of the educational trail presenting the history of the Lec camp and the surrounding area.
