Description of commemoration

Opposite the car park at the Jan Linders market, near Maastrichterlaan 33, there is an audio site (a so-called listening stone), placed there as part of the international project Liberation Route Europe.

When you approach the stone memorial, you can listen to stories from the time of the occupation of the Netherlands in the city of Beek – the history of the German deserter Frits Linke, the story of the rescue of Mannela Franz and about the death of almost all his family who were deported from Beek, via the Westerbork camp – to Auschwitz and other camps. Information on how the local Jews were murdered is also available.
