Villenueve Sainte-Odile (camp) Plénée-Jugon (memorial)

Historical background

In 1940 the internment camp for the Gypsies was located on the estate of Villenueve Sainte-Odile, near Plénée-Jugon, in the location where today there is a centre and a farm for the blind. Later a group of the Roma from this camp was transported to the Coudrecieux dans la Sarthe camp.

Description of commemoration

The memorial is located on the square near the roundabout where the Rue de Général de Gaulle forks from road No. D792. It is a stone (perhaps basalt?) in rusty-grey colour, its surface is rough at the back and smooth in the front and on the sides.

A granite plaque with a sandblasted, gilded inscription in French is screwed on the front.
