Ludwigshafen (memorial)

Description of commemoration

The memorial is located in the square which is adjacent to today’s town hall and shopping gallery. In the past, this used to be the main railway station from which Roma and Sinti were deported to concentration camps.

The memorial has the form of a three-sided sandstone column. On the front wall there is a bronze plaque with an inscription in German.

On the right side of the memorial, an additional road sign was installed, pointing to the south-French village of Gurs (“Gurs 1168 km”), where a Gypsy internment camp was located. Considering this information, we can conclude that Gypsies were deported from Ludwigshafen not only to concentration camps in Poland, but also in France. Unfortunately, I did not find any details on this topic.
